How do you cut your own hair?

I got my hair cut 2 days ago in a salon, but I don't like the length she cut it, I want it a little shorter. What is the best way to cut your own hair without REALLY messing it up? I want to cut just a little off, but I dont want it to be 50 different lengths!!

Also, how do you cut layers?

Any help would be great! I've looked on websites, but none of them seem to explain well enough how to cut hair.

i cant i mess up every time

How do you cut your own hair?

if your not satisfied, andy decent salonist will let you come back and tweak it a bit..... just call and tell her you wanted it a little bit shorter and go back in!

(cutting your own hair can be disasterous! be very very careful and cut LITTLE bits at a time in case you get it uneven and take off 6 inches!)

If they could keep their traps shut and concentrate on what they're doing, people might get better haircuts, styles or whatever you call it.

How do you cut your own hair?

Wet hair is much easier to cut than dry hair. Start with freshly shampooed, tangle-free hair. Keep a bottle of water with a spray nozzle nearby so that you can dampen your hair if it begins to dry while you are working on it.

Be sure that your scissors are nice and sharp to avoid pulling your hair. If you plan to cut your hair on a regular basis, it will be worth investing in a good quality pair of scissors designed specifically for use on hair.

No matter what style you choose, cut a little at a time, especially if you are a beginner. You can always cut it a little shorter, but once you've gone too short, all you can do is wait for it to grow back!

Simple styles are best for home hair cuts. The easiest cut will be one length everywhere. Decide on an overall length (it's a good idea to measure your hair when you have a cut that you find especially flattering) and then grab your ruler. Working in small sections, comb your hair straight out from your scalp and hold a section smoothly between your index and middle fingers. Measure to the desired length and carefully snip off the excess. Continue in this manner until you have cut all of your hair. This method works equally well for both men and women. The length of the chosen cut can vary from quite short to shoulder length and beyond.

You may want to start with a professional cut and then just trim about the same amount of hair from all areas of your head every month or two to maintain the style. Be aware that on most people, the hair on one side of their head grows faster than on the other, so if you choose this method, you will need to visit your stylist every now and then as the cut begins to get uneven.

Another idea for a simple, yet attractive cut is to lean over and comb all of your wet hair straight forward. Smooth sections of your hair through your fingers and cut all hair in one straight line across. Be sure to work in small sections and continue from one side to the other. Double check to see that the cut feels pretty even and then stand upright. Part your hair in the middle and comb it straight down. Run small sections of your hair between your index and middle fingers to see if there are any long pieces. If you find some, carefully snip off the excess.

If you have curly hair, be sure to cut your hair considerably longer than the desired finished length. Curls shrink up quite a bit as they dry, so you must allow for this. If your hair is very thick or coarse, hold very small sections of hair for trimming. Trying to cut too much hair at once, especially for thick hair, can make the hair bend between the blades of the scissors, instead of cutting evenly.

For all styles, when you think that you are finished, be sure to check that the cut feels even everywhere. Simply take sections of hair from opposite sides of your head and gently tug them toward your eyes, nose, chin and jaw line to see that the sides are fairly evenly matched. Carefully trim prices that seem a little too long.

For bangs, begin with your hair parted in the center. Using your comb, take an equal amount of hair from each side of the part line and comb it forward. Smooth the hair between your index and middle fingers and cut across, being careful to maintain a straight line.

Currently, many men are choosing to wear their hair "buzzed" or cut extremely short. This cut can be easily achieved at home by using an electric hair clipper. These lightweight clippers allow you to set the blades to your desired length, ranging from completely bald to several inches of hair. By simply running the clipper across your head repeatedly, you will clip all hair to the desired length. For the easiest men's haircut of all, simply lather up with a thick shaving cream and shave your head smooth. This look is especially favored by athletes.

One word of caution--keep it simple. If you are inexperienced at cutting your own hair and looking for a complicated style with many angles or layers, you will probably need to enlist the help of a friend to be sure that your haircut is even in areas that are difficult for you to reach.

As you get more comfortable cutting your own hair, you may want to attempt more complicated styles. There are a number of terrific books and videos available that offer step-by-step guidance. A video can be especially helpful since you get to see the procedure in action and can replay it as many times as necessary to help you fine-tune your skills.

If you're asking how to cut your hair on yahoo! answers, that means you will certainly mess up. A task such as this requires skill and experience.

The same thing happened to me. Instead of wasting my money and taking a chance by going back to the same salon, I consulted a likeminded friend who is skilled in the area. We have a similiar style so she could easily gauge what I wanted. It turned out wonderfully. It was very me, and best of all, it was free. I

How do you cut your own hair?

I'm really into my hair and i watch how mu beautition (sp?) cuts it, i have layers with a medium hair length. what she does is she lifts the hair up and makes sure it is tight. the higher you hold the hair, the more layers, the lower, the less layers. hold it straight out the side of your head and cut and even line, and when you let go you have layers. i cut my bngs all the time like this.(i do have layers in my bangs[it looks neat]). but try it on your bangs first. if you have bangs.

good luck. =]

Rachel is right. Somebody else always has a better angle of view to cut your hair cleanly and evenly.

If you tried to do this yourself it would be very frustrating.

A mess up is virtually 100% certain.

How do you cut your own hair?

How do you cut your own hair?

How do you cut your own hair?

Put your hair into 2 sides over your shoulders and pull your hair until the ends are all in line. then cut along so it's all in length. The back will be a bit longer but it looks fine!

How do you cut your own hair?

I would suggest you go back to where you got it cut in the first place and tell them you want it shorter. They might not do again for free because if you werent happy, you should have said something before you left. But I would not try to do it myself. Especially if its layered. It is very difficult to cut it yourself, especialy if you've never cut hair before. If you realy care what your hair looks like, and dont want it all crooked, DONT do it! Its not worth saving a couple of bucks!

How do you cut your own hair?

It is really difficult

I once asked my hairdresser if she cut her own hair and she said, "No ! I never cut my own hair !!!I figure I deserve an appointment at the beauty salon, just like everyone else!!"

If you want it only a little shorter, leave it as it is, because in a short time it will be right back where it is now !! So don't ruin it!

Cutting layers: I do know how they do it, but I cannot do it myself. Although....and I hope this does not lead you into temptation!!.....I once saw someone brush all her hair very neatly and carefully into a ponytail on **top** of her head, fasten it in place and cut it off straight above the elastic band about 3" higher ....and when she unfastened it, it was all in layers, shaggy bangs and all...voila!

How do you cut your own hair?

You should never cut your own hair . If you just had the haircut done then maybe you should give them a call and explain that you wanted it a little shorter. Once you cut your hair it is no undoing. If they are a good salon and welcome your business they will tell you to come back and maybe if there is a length your going for get a picture and take it with you.

Remember you can not see the back of your head so trying to cut layers evenly would be a big mistake.

How do you cut your own hair?

well I can tell you that it is possible even though these pple are saying it's not, My mom does it every time, she cuts her hair in layers and it looks very good every time!, all I see is that she wets her hair and bends down a little letting her hair come down in front of her.....she looks at the ends from there doesn't use a mirror, I guess she already knows the measurements and how it's going to look afterwards.

My brother when he use to cut his own hair he just used two mirrors, and asked my mom to shave the bottom to get that perfect square look.
